Welcome to my collection of shiny things!

From a long spanning career as a Graphic Design professional, like the cheeky Magpie, collecting trinkets, I’ve amassed a treasure trove of my work that I am pleased to share. My portfolio reflects the breadth of work I’ve designed throughout my career, and gives insight to how I think and create as a professional Graphic Designer.

A PASSION FOR PRINT - Ink must flow in my bloodstream

My maternal grandfather, Alexander Jaswaye was a printer by trade and I followed in his footsteps. I studied Graphic Communications while attending a vocational trade school at the dawn of an evolution in the print industry. And as it continues to evolve, I adapted to and thrive readily in that environment. I was the standout creative student in “Print Shop” as we called it, and the shop Instructors noticed. They put me to work and the in-house Graphic Designer. I was illustrating and designing church bulletins for a local parish before I could drive.

After eventually earning my Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, with a minor in Psychology, I began my professional career in the bizarre world of professional wrestling. I was hired as a Production Artist, then recurrently promoted as a result of critical acclaim for work and proven leadership. As the Senior Creative Director of Promotion and Marketing, working hand-in-hand with World Wrestling Entertainment’s Marketing and Promotion teams, I gleaned a boatload of brand building and marketing knowledge. Over the course of my 15-year tenure, the WWE brand evolved multiple times, each with its own visual and overall aesthetic differences. Adapting to a name change, persona shift and appealing to changing markets, building new brands within the WWE umbrella, character development, and so much more, while leading a team of 7 or more designers and directors, were extraordinary learning tools.

learning, growing & sharing knowledge.

As a team leader, I managed many Art Directors, Designers and Production Artists. (This is where those Psychology courses paid off.) Fresh off my tenure with the WWE, I was hired as an adjunct instructor, teaching Graphic Design courses at Connecticut’s Paier College Of Art. My diverse and successful career as a Graphic Design professional imparted abundant knowledge and skills to empower my students with the skills they need to succeed. Teaching gives me a deep sense of fulfillment and satisfaction while providing opportunities for continuous learning and self-improvement.

NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE

With the foundational lessons of good design imbedded in my brain after so many years of application, there is nothing more to do than create. Having a solid foundation of good design principles makes the task at hand achievable with endless possibilities. As technology continues to evolve, and as the industry I love evolves with it, I am learning that by leveraging new technologies thoughtfully and responsibly, I can unlock new possibilities and shape the future of my craft in a meaningful way. Graphic Design, for all its intricacies and changing trends, remains my passion and my constant. Having the experience, enthusiasm, wisdom and the confidence to deliver Grade A solutions, to every assignment I say, “Let’s do this!”

Why a Magpie?

The Magpie totem is a good luck symbol that indicates joy, love, and lasting fortune. Legend has it that they collect shiny objects to decorate their nests and are known as the messengers of the gods. When reaching out to potential clients I used to make and distribute these fortune-telling “cootie catchers” for fun. Featuring magpies and fortunes, every one touting my flagrant self-promotion.
