It’s the MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR to design for!
With my graphic design assignments almost exclusively for the scünci brand’s seasonal holiday promotions, I found pure joy when it came time to begin concept design for the 3rd quarter Halloween hair accessories creative request. Research in packaging and design trends influence the concepts with aesthetically pleasing visuals that stand out amidst competition. And as with most of the seasonal holiday package design for scünci promotions, in a crowded marketplace, glitter & sparkle are this brand’s trademark.
let’s do HALLOWEEN again! MOOD BOARD
GOAL: Return to the classics but stay on trend with some twists. Post-Covid, Marketing is targeting mothers and younger consumers who are anxiously returning to traditional Halloween gatherings and events. Nostalgic references to happy memories of trick-or-treating connects to the consumer’s emotions and reverence for simpler times. Understanding what direction to not go in with regard to classic Halloween themes, shows sensitivity to the culture climate and builds upon brand trust.
2022 HALLOWEEN NOVELTY PACKAGE DESIGN ARTWORK
Fashion and design trends fluctuate by season. Accompanying the card design, a half side rack display is designed to complement and complete the store merchandising. Based on the color Purple forecasted as a hot trend color for the 2022 Halloween season, the in-store artwork was adjusted to reflect this edit, post release. Flexibility is everything!
The Purple Halloween trend continues
When Ghosties are trending, Halloween concepts use untraditional spins into these classic graphic characters. I use faux Holographic fills and a signature hair bow to capture the younger audience in the Novelty shopper category.

In addition to designing packaging for novelty hair accessories, Scünci also calls for graphic design for Halloween hair accessory items targeted toward a more mature demographic.
BRAINSTORMING FOR THE LINE
Below are out-of-the-box concepts presented to the Marketing team to consider alternate packaging options for the Halloween line. Hair accessory items become part of the design itself, as unique die cuts and product pairings create eye=catching options for consumers.
